Green Curtain Events is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Tacos y Tamales Festival – a street affair based off a traditional Mexican market known as the Tianguis.
A Tianguis is an open air market or bazaar that is traditionally held on certain days in a city or town in Mexico and Central America. This bazaar tradition has its roots embedded well into the pre-Hispanic period of Latin American and continues, in many cases, unchanged into the present day. The Tacos y Tamales Festival will feature the best and most authentic cuisine of Latin America, in a form that is both popular and familiar to the masses, Tacos and Tamales.
Festival goers will be immersed into the sights and smells of the Tianguis with local vendors selling their food, artwork, wares and an array of other items. The two performance stages will feature live music throughout the weekend with traditional acts during the day, interactive dance performances, and higher-energy Latin rock into the night.
• The Best (and most authentic) Tacos y Tamales Chicago has to offer

This working-class neighborhood is thick with riches in art and historic architecture, and occupied by a community that’s fiercely proud of where they live. The Tacos y Tamales Festival aims to give back to the community in which it is hosted; as a portion of the proceeds will benefit local community groups as well as preservation projects inhabiting Pilsen’s everyday lifestyle.
16th Street Murals
The Tacos y Tamales Festival will take place in the shadows of the 16th street murals. Local, as well as National and International artists have their works displayed on these walls. The giant paintings make for a very beautiful and unique backdrop for the event. They are truly a sight to behold.
